Mission
At Food Revolution LA, our mission is to fight for food justice by creating access to healthy food for everyone in the Los Angeles area. We rescue excess food that would otherwise go to waste and redistribute it to those in need. We provide hands-on education about nutrition for our youth. We work to build sustainable communities and make sure no one goes to bed hungry. Through education, advocacy and direct action, we strive to create long-term change and support those facing food insecurity. We are working towards a future in which all people can access nutritious food and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

This allows members of the community to focus on other tasks, such as finding jobs or maintaining their educational progress, which can in turn create a more prosperous future for the entire community.
Moreover, by involving more people in the food exchange program, we are raising awareness of the issue of hunger in our communities and inspiring people to take action.
This will encourage more people to become involved in initiatives that strive to tackle poverty and food insecurity. By doing so, we are beginning to create more cohesive and unified communities.
What does food waste have to do with climate change?
Food scraps add to the growing waste generated in landfills. This is a problem because food and food waste that ends up in landfills contributes to climate change. Not only is wasted food a waste of the water and energy it took to produce that food, but food that sits in a landfill releases methane, a greenhouse gas that is more efficient and trapping heat than carbon dioxide. This is because in landfills, there’s no air and no natural way for the food to decompose. Wasting food contributes to 11% of the world’s total greenhouse gas emissions.
